What is Art?

Art- the quality, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principle of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.

How can art be generalized by this one sentence? The possibilities of art are nearly endless so it can't.
Because art is sparked by the individual, the connotation is different for everyone whether they are the artist or the spectator. When art is created it is made for multiple reasons. Some of these include the reaction, the emotion, the beliefs of the artist, the fundamental use, or the simple pleasure and beauty.
For the aspect of reaction some artists create a piece of work for the general public to either approve of it, scrutinize it, or be so baffled they don't know what to think of it. Artists do this for the sake of their own amusement and for the response because any press is good press.
For the aspect of emotion, art is a method that allows anyone to express themselves to allow liberation. Many people seek art as a means of relief whether be it an hour of painting a day or a life time as a well renowned artist.
For the beliefs of the artist, culture, religion, and society are incorporated. The viewer gets to see the intimacy behind the work and the artist opens up, allowing vulnerability and additional knowledge.
For the purpose of fundamental use, art can be also functional. Art is everywhere we look such as the chair we sit in to the shoes we wear.
For the aspect of beauty, art is visual and therefore it can be pleasing to the eyes.

So what is art for you?
