What is Art?

This question often arises; I believe that any form of art is very subjective both for the viewer and artist. This is so as what an artist creates may not appear to be art to the viewer. This can be seen with Guillermo Habacuc Vargas’s piece of art, in which he puts a dog on display to starve. I do not consider this art, as is inhumane and harmful. People are allowed to express themselves, but I believe they should do so in a considerate manner. I do believe that art must be unique and Ai Weiwei's Sunflowers seeds are a form of art as the seeds were hand painted and scattered, and the idea was unique. However, it is controversial that he did not paint each seed himself but he did create the concept. Piero Manzoni decided that his shit in a can was art. The cans did in fact sell for a lot of money after he passed away. The idea was distinct, as no other artist had done this before. Furthermore, although the Human Centipede movies are disturbing, no one has created something like this before and it does not actually harm anyone, unlike Guillermo’s exhibit. It can be seen that defining art has always proven to be a controversial matter.
