Art Experience 2

Every Thursday night for the past few weeks at Drake’s a friend of mine, Chuck Magid, has been performing live. Chuck is a very talented musician who plays the guitar and sings. He is mostly a solo act and can play a variety of different guitars, bass, electric, etc., thus allowing him to play classic songs and some of his own stuff; both of which are very enjoyable. I went the first week he was performing at Drake’s. I had no idea what to expect, as I have never been to a live rock show of any kind. The scene was depressing as there stood Chuck on stage all alone in a basically empty bar with only a few of his close friends there to support him. It was early, around 10:30, but still I felt really bad for him. Although there was basically no crowd Chuck was belting out songs and he exceeded my expectations by tenfold. He kept switching up guitars to play types of Rock, from Led Zeppelin to Green Day, switching up his singing voice to adjust to the songs he was playing. Eventually more and more people started showing up and it really turned out to be a great time, so much so that I ended up ditching my other plans for the night. The best part came towards the end when Chuck started to play with a friend of his who was a DJ. The two mixed techno with rock seamlessly and it was really quite a spectacle. The owner of Drake’s was really impressed with Chuck’s act and now every Thursday night he performs there and the title of his show is “No Cover, No Cab Drakes Thursday Night.”

  1. Sounds good and also great that he doesn't do the regular covers you might find at a bar. I was out last Saturday night the guy singing was deadly.
