Silly Little Letters

G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17

These letters mean to me limitations that are meant to be broken. There is a board somewhere that feels they have the power to limit viewers from seeing movies that they deem unacceptable to them because of their age. If I want to see a movie and enjoy the work that was put into them then who is anyone to try and stop me. I do not believe that there should be people paid to tell anyone no, especially in films. Yes, some films may think they need a more mature audience to fully appreciate all the work that they put into it, but if a seven year old feels that they can appreciate the film in their own way than why should someone not allow that to happen. The only person who should tell a child that they can or cannot see a movie are the persons parents, and even then the child should still be able to sneak out and go see it.

After watching the film in class it was brought to my attention just how truly unfair the rating system is. A movie like Saving Private Ryan is given PG-13 where a man is on the beach with his insides hanging out of him, yet a different movie is given a NC-17 rating because the female character had too long of an orgasm. In my personal opinion I would pick a sex scene for a child to watch rather than having them see another humans guts sprawled out on a beach.

  1. You do a raise a good question. Which is worse violence or sex?
